The L.I.T.E. Study (Living Lean In a Toxic Environment)

This study is the first to counter the popular notion that nobody can maintain a healthy body weight while living in our culture of fast food restaurants, automobiles, and remote controls – all of which have been labeled “toxic” to maintaining a healthy body weight.  Funded by the National Institute of Health, LITE is studying eating and exercise behaviors of individuals who are successfully Living Lean in a Toxic Environment.

The study is comparing successful weight losers with normal weight people to find out how they are managing to maintain a normal weight in our obesity-promoting world.

At this time we have completed our enrollment!

Participation is brief – one week – and requires completing a 1-hour questionnaire, wearing an accelerometer (like a pedometer) for one week, and completing three 20-minute dietary recalls over the course of a week. You will be eligible to participate in the National Weight Control Registry upon your completion of the L.I.T.E. study.

A unique aspect of the study is that participants will received free personalized information about the calorie, fat, protein, and carbohydrate content of their diet, as well as information about the micronutrient composition of their diet (e.g., vitamin and mineral consumption).  Participants will also receive free personalized information about the amount of calories they burn in both physical and sedentary activities.
